I have been discovering the world beyond The Classics, mostly modern SF&F. I do love (some) older romances and novels, and have been making an effort to read more non-fiction and books in my native language 😄

Andy Weir: Project Hail Mary (Paperback, 2021)

A lone astronaut must save the earth from disaster in this incredible new science-based thriller …

The sciencest science fiction

This wasn't really my thing. The detailed descriptions of scientific processes were a little exhausting after a certain point, the main character is kind of annoying and the part of the plot that takes place on earth is.. Not great. However I loved the space romp side of it, and found the ending quite sweet 😄

I'm halfway through this book and all the explanations of how the protagonist Solves Things With Science are getting a little too annoying. It's just very, A Kind Of Guy. I am also absolutely fed up with every single chapter that takes place on earth, but the ones in space are cool enough to keep me going!

I made a gigantic mistake and interrupted my reading very, very close to the book's climax. So all tension that had been building up went essentially down the drain; I recall feeling very invested, but when I caught up I had forgotten a couple of (important!!) details and the whole ending fell a little bit flat. I don't even feel like I can review this book now 😅

Very weird

Such a strange book. I needed to take a minute after each story to let it properly sink in. I liked some better than others, which is inevitable, but really like the feeling of the book overall. And the folklore and cultural references were very new to me so I appreciated them a lot!
