It's not bad, but it's slow and kinda directionless, somehow I don't have the patience right now to read on... So DNF at page 165, but maybe I'll continue to read it some day.

The book was okay, but that's basically it. Some of the tropes were overdone and the ending was dragging on much too long for my taste. By that point you already knew what caused all the horrors, I wouldn't have needed more of the same.
Also, [Spoiler] it's one of those books I personally get annoyed with because the author spends the whole 200+ pages building up a supernatural story only to reveal "Huh, it wasn't supernatural, after all, at least not all of it, not much mystery there, just your ordinary greedy capitalists" at the end.
CW: murder, suicide/suicidal thoughts, blood/gore, illness/death, loss/grief, ableism, mental illness, PTSD, hallucinations.

At first I was afraid that this would be the spiders all over again, just with octopuses, and it sort of is, but isn't quite... It took me a while to really get into the story, but now halfway in I can't put the book down.

I didn't share some of the humour in it, but very much enjoyed reading this book. Some twists and turns, dark secrets, and a murder mystery solved by septua- and octogenarians? Count me in. I want to know how the Thursday Murder Club tackles their next case, so I'll surely pick up the second book in the series.

If you look for a "cosy crime" novel, look no further, 'cause this is the real deal. The murder mystery isn't a really complicated one (I could guess who did it), but it was a very entertaining story with charming characters and I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
I'm not sure if this does even need CWs...
I didn't like this.

I read on and on, wanting to know what happened to Dee's sister, but wow, was the plot twist and end of Dee's story disappointing. Hers was the plot line that made me continue reading, and then this, wth. It just left me annoyed at having wasted my time. The other plot lines of the story mostly just drag on, there are multiple characters rambling, then there's the reveal, which consists of a trope you can guess rather early on, then there's more rambling, and even at the end and after reading the author's note I couldn't really understand what was the point of the book. It was disturbing in its very detailed descriptions of child and animal abuse.
And then after the reveal, [Spoiler] there was not a single word about Ted's dates and if he actually murdered them or just imagined he did? Did he even really go? What was that plot line for? Just to frame him as a weirdo and serial killer even more?
It was so confusing at times to the point it got frustrating, and I don't get why this book was so hyped. It was definitely not for me and I wouldn't recommend it, either.
CW: murder/suicide, illness/death, child abuse & death, animal abuse & death, violence, blood/gore, mental illness, kidnapping, drugs & alcohol, medical procedures used as torture, ableism, self harm. (I guess there's more, these are just the ones I noticed.)
