Review of 'Legends and Lattes' on 'Goodreads'

This is a super cozy book. I have [b:Bookshops & Bonedust|65213543|Bookshops & Bonedust (Legends & Lattes, #0)|Travis Baldree|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1678122626l/65213543.SY75.jpg|100097047] ready to go on my TBR last as I enjoyed this one so much.

If you are someone that wants a lot of depth, gore, and fighting in your fantasy, this is definitely more of a cozy book. I was on the search for a cozy book, and this hit the spot.

I did find myself somewhat bored by the second half, but it's also an easy read, so it didn't dampen the experience. The last part almost made me cry though, even though it was foreshadowed, I wanted to take action myself, so I definitely bonded with Viv. I want her coffee now.

The world building and dialogue are the most impressive parts of this book. You are truly allowed to escape.

Beth did it again with this one!

There's spice, action, suspense, humor, code, a strong female protagonist, and a pretty dress. Everything and more I could possibly want from a sci-fi book. The writing is just plain fun. It's easy to follow, but there's no fluff either.

There is so much wrapped into this shorter book and I loved every minute of it.

Definitely recommend this one!!!

Thank you for much for this wonderful ARC NetGallery! I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Review of 'Wreck of Witches' on 'Goodreads'

This is one of my favorite books and I can't believe I forgot to write a review for it.

Nia Quinn is a genius when it comes to urban fantasy world building and infusing humor and side quests along the way.

The house this cool witch lives in is haunted, and she runs a plant store. I don't want to give anything away with this book, because I think going in blindly is the best way to go into a Nia Quinn book. Just know you'll come out laughing and happy.

Review of 'Sigils & Sushi' on 'Goodreads'

This is my favorite comfort read by far.

From the ADHD rep to the snark and wittiness of the protagonist, either this is just the author for me or SHE NEEDS TO BE DISCOVERED IMMEDIATELY. I believe the latter is true so I refuse to shut up about this author for the future, sorry.

Her humor is mine, and this is hard to find in a book. She's got demon roommates, one of which is a total sweetheart and afraid of dust that has an emotional support unicorn, and one that lives in the mirror in a "very scary" domain.

I won't say anything else as to prevent spoilers, but this book has it all.

It's clean but there's still romantic tension. There's a clear plot with a lot of creative world building and each side quest helps with character development AND the plot, which is so hard to do.

Brynne Weaver: Butcher & Blackbird (2023, Auto-édition)

A friends-to-lovers dark romantic comedy full of murder, chaos, and spice, unlike anything you’ve read …

Review of 'Butcher & Blackbird' on 'Goodreads'

If you like Dexter and are into romances, you will love this book. It's hard to talk about without giving anything away, but it's about two serial killers who fall in love. There's a lot of gore, revenge, and spice.

Loved this book and am already onto the second one! This was not a book I took a lot of notes during, I inhaled it.

I will say, I liked the first book the most. I do wish the smut scene was more oriented towards the woman. EXPLICIT: leaving yourself inside someone can literally cause an infection

Some food items will be ruined for you for about a week.

Not me loving this series so much that I'm starting to get emotionally attached to the writing style. It's comfortable, fun, predictable, and wonderful.

As the author very clearly states on his website (see here), this series is not intended to be a YA series, as the topics it covers are difficult.

This third book I do have some things to say:

Book is non-stop action for the most part, with chapters focusing on character development. Reggie was focused on most in this book.

The author's ability to use mental models we already know and then guide the reader is genuinely impressive beyond belief. It's like I am IN the book with Teagan, fighting bad guys.

Trigger warnings:

If you or someone you know struggles with meth addiction, this book is probably not for you. While the author's intention is to cover the topic …

I think about this book on a weekly basis.

I would put it up there with the best sci-fi books of all time.

Read it, now. You will not regret it. This author is not only incredibly talented, but you can tell he truly enjoys the process of writing. This is an art form and I am here for it.

Jackson Ford: Random Sh*t Flying Through the Air (Paperback, 2020, Orbit)

Review of 'Random Sh*t Flying Through the Air' on 'Goodreads'

What I loved:
-This book gives Deadpool vibes already in the best way.
-I am even more impressed with Jackson's ability to write.
-He introduces characters with such elegance and hilarity, "was licking his balls" was used to describe a dog relaxing under the table. Without the context of the silly name and the dog being under the table, this would be horrifying. A human licking their balls under the table? Nope, the mammal gets pets, which is how we know it's a dog.
-The author knows exactly what the reader is thinking, because they will hint at something, create curiosity, then confirm that or fully explain it within the next page.

What I didn't love:

-I wish Amber didn't smoke cigarettes lol but that makes her so much more human, and there's not any extreme detail on this.
-I literally can't think of anything

I had high hopes …

Thoughts I had While Reading:

What I loved:
-This is a unique story - it's very creative and hilarious.
-I need chocolate now.
-Feminist plotline.
-I have already laughed out loud at least three times and I'm not even on page 40 yet.
-I have yet to see any sort of trigger. There is a family death, but it's only in reference to the past.
-The representation!!!
-The humor is everything. EVERYTHING.

What kept it from being 5 stars (I changed my score since finishing this book, a rare occurrence!!):

-Hard to keep track of the characters (this may be a personal preference as I am bad with names in real life as well). I couldn't knock the author for this as I started to get more comfortable with the characters over time. A little list of characters before the start of the book or at the end …

Jackson Ford: The Girl Who Could Move Sh*t with Her Mind (2019, Orbit Books)

Review of 'The Girl Who Could Move Sh*t with Her Mind' on 'Goodreads'

What I love About This Book:
-Science fiction
-Action is happening, and the author is SHOWING this so so well, I am with the characters every step of the way
-The protagonist is a bad b*tch
-There is humor infused but not enough to take away from how cool the protagonist is
-Computer talk gets me going and scratches all my itches
-The paperback feels so nice
-Representation: LGBTQ characters, characters of color, characters with disabilities
-Healthy Boundaries: There is no dark romance, and there are statements made to make it clear where the book stands on non-consent, pushing boundaries, etc
-Writing style: the author shows every single scene, bringing literal furniture to life, using perfectly placed metaphors, analogies, and descriptors.

Ok, I am a bit bummed.

I don't know what I was expecting, but this story just didn't do it for me. I persevered and finished the book, but I won't lie, I skipped a page here and there.

Why? More than 80% of the book is log entries. thought, ok, well hopefully this will be jam packed with science.

I forgot the protagonist is a Botanist and fixes things - so not the science I have much interest in. I do not care about the specifics of growing plants - I have a garden in my backyard I can learn from. I do not care about how fast a theoretical rover could go with enough solar power. I was aching for cool science and felt this book didn't deliver for me.

Now, this is obviously a very personal experience I had with …
