Amber Herbert reviewed Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid
Review of 'Such a Fun Age' on 'Goodreads'
5 stars
Such a Fun Age is a captivating tale about how someone can do the right thing for the wrong reasons. Simultaneously a story about race and work-related relationships, the novel tackles very serious aspects of our current political climate and the nuances of interpersonal connections while also being funny as well as heartfelt.
I adored Emira’s love for Briar, and how she wants so much to advance in life but fears she’s the only one who actually offers the three-year-old the love and attention she desires and deserves. I appreciated Kelley and Alix’s need to help Emira after the Market Depot incident. Though neither of them behaved appropriately, their actions were so human that it was difficult not to empathize with them.
I also found the conclusion refreshing; though the end wasn’t unexpected or unforeseen, it did not adhere to my expectations, which I always appreciate.
I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for Kiley Reid’s next literary contribution.
