I read the first chapter in a library. Very captivating and thought provoking.

ashwinvis wants to read Dune: Dune Chronicles by Frank Herbert (1)
There is a lot of hype surrounding Dune. In some old forum I recall seeing it termed as the LOTR of sci-fi. Naturally I was curious. The aesthetics were very different though, for instance character names have a West Asian touch. I did not read much more than that the 1st time. Must try reading again, before the movie lands

ashwinvis reviewed Eldest by Christopher Paolini (The Inheritance Cycle, #2)
Review of 'Eldest (Inheritance, Book 2)' on 'GoodReads'
3 stars
A fine read... It had its ups and downs. However the climatic sequence was compelling enough, and quick paced to finish with a positive. Paolini needs to do better while framing a twist at the end, too obvious.

There I was, testing if the original Artemis Fowl series was worth giving a try. So I tried the graphic novel for a quick read.
The art was OK. But the story was too simplistic. Artemis is more like a omniscient brat, hardly adorable.

Review of 'Eragon' on 'GoodReads'

Engaging. Impressive writing and details, not too elaborate, but just the right amount. There are events going around away from the story - known unknows - which give the narration some depth. I will pick up Eldest right away (which I heard is the best in the series.)
