After successfully evading an Urgals ambush, Eragon is adopted into the Ingeitum clan and sent to finish his training in magic and swordsmanship so he can further help the Varden in their struggle against the Empire.
Highly recommended to anyone that enjoyed the first book in the series, "Eragon". A wonderful continuation of the legend of Eragon and Saphira.
A fine read... It had its ups and downs. However the climatic sequence was compelling enough, and quick paced to finish with a positive. Paolini needs to do better while framing a twist at the end, too obvious.
My 10 year old son and I are reading this series together - the audio books - and we both very much enjoyed it. I would have given it a 3.5 and he would have given it a 5 (he's very easy) so I rated it 4 stars.
In April 2007, I listened to an audio version of this book. It was the unabridged audio. I have a long commute, and since I was not a huge fan of Eragon, felt time was better spent listening to the book and reading other books I would like better.
Eldest was an improvement over Eragon, although, again, Paolini's plot and twists are transparent.
