@cblgh The date is a lie, it's been more than 6 years since I read it. BUT: I freaking loved Parable of the Sowers - I wrote a (danish) review here: futurologi.org/et-post-trumpistisk-mareridt/ - in essence, I really liked how it folds out the praxis of super radical hope in the face of utter shit.

I also liked Parable of the Talents, but also missed some things: I would have like more - more of what happened in-between and more of the whole Earthseed thing, which almost becomes an afterthought. But yeah, also cool how it really explores the difficulties of the relationship with the mother.

What about you, what did you thing?

@abekonge ah i see :) butler's prediction of trump and trumpism (even keying in the actual slogan? like damn) was top-of-mind for me while reading it. parable of the sower blew my mind, i'd never heard it mentioned before. it's relentless depiction of the turn for the worse of the protag's life as well as their inner strength and resolve resonated for a long time for me after reading

talents was, i think, less memorable for me? i remember the broad plotlines and a few fragments but not many details. perhaps a re-read would be interesting :)

@cblgh yes I agree. A reread might be worthwhile, Meanwhile I just finished Adulthood Rites, second book in her Xenogenesis series..... And I think it blew my mind as much as Parable! The first one, Dawn is also very good. The whole setting is wild! Did you read it?

@abekonge yes! i know the series under the name Lilith's Brood. there's some good discussion about it on ssb! it's one of those series that permanently altered how i view the world. when reading it i felt consistently off-balance, i think the "alienation" aspect is incredibly well realized
