Pierce Brown: Light Bringer (Hardcover, 2023, Del Rey)

It feels good to be back.

To the friends. To the victories. To the tension and to the pain.

A lot of things I missed here, but not as much as I'll miss all these characters while I wait for Red God.

Except for Lyria, to be honest.

--- Kind of spoilers ahead! ---

There are some things that I found a little forced, but I get the choices made by Pierce Brown. However it is a little tough for the suspension of disbelief when you end up needing to meta-justify stuff.

On the other hand, I have been an advocate of Lyria and Lysander on previous books, and on this one they just became what all the other people always told me. I believed in you, and you chose to betray me.

Siddhartha Mukherjee: The Emperor of All Maladies (2018, Simon & Schuster Audio and Blackstone Audio)

The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer is a book written by Siddhartha …

This is a great book, and everyone slightly interested in cancer should read it. It is humbling and sometimes heartbreaking.

I "read" it as an audiobook, so this could be better in the print version. But what I found most confusing (and why I think I must read it again) is that since the chapters follow specific stories, the timeline of the discoveries got mixed up in my head when comingo into the 20th century. The final chapter helps summarize everything quite neatly, but if you want to read it, probably get some notes.

I came from the series, so I'm biased. However, I'm biased the other way around, since I hated the first season.

In the first season everyone is so unjustifiably angry. Reading it makes the "chosen family" aspect of the story more credible. It is a great and interesting read.
