Greg Egan: Distress (1997, Harper Prism)

It is 2055 and the world is far better--and infinitely worse.

Enjoyed

This is the type of SF book that doesn't require you to necessarily suspend disbelief. The details are often my favorite part of a novel; they don't always move the story, but they really paint the world, and this book has some great details. I also found the overall story captivating. I have only read two books by the author, but it seems like pondering reality, or the perception of, may be a common theme.
