kdwarn commented on Deer-Resistant Native Plants for the Northeast by Ruth Rogers Clausen
Authors were on the December 16, 2021 episode of the Native Plant Podcast: www.nativeplantpodcast.com/podcasts-1/2021/12/26/ruth-rogers-clausen-amp-gregg-tepper-on-their-new-book-deer-resistant-native-plants-for-the-northeast.
Note that according to the authors during that interview, despite the title, it is NOT all native plants to the northeast, but includes some from southeast as well.

This book is filled with practical advice, and ends with a final chapter exhorting you to look "over the garden wall" and advocate for wildlife in your local area. I found this advice from the beginning of the book to be very helpful in my thinking: "There are three simple principles you need to adopt if you are going to create a successful woodland-edge habitat. You must develop several layers of plants one above the other; you must include a good range of native plants, from trees down to carpeting wildflowers; and you must build up a rich layer of dead and decaying material, from big logs to fine leaf mold."

Beyond being an excellent reference book, it has great, succinct advice on gardening. I'd recommend it to anyone (in the northeast U.S.) interested in gardening, whether novice or seasoned.
