@mouse I've written a review of the book. Quite an enjoyable book, that captures how life in Malaysia (and in Singapore, to a lesser extent) is like.
BTW, while looking up references to the book, I found this blog post about Datok Gong (the spirit who protects people who worship it). [ thethreestars.wordpress.com/2020/03/20/datuk-gong/ ]. I think it gives quite a good overview of some of the spiritual practices featured in the book.
