Das Buch endet mit der Vorstellung von Cornelia Funke als "die international erfolgreichste und bekannteste deutsche Kinderbuchautorin" deren "Beliebtheit und Einfluss" sich in zahlreichen Preisen widerspiegelt. Das ist im Kern mein größtes Problem mit Funke: sie ist immer einen Funken (haha) zu selbstverliebt in ihren Schreibstil und wird streckenweise unerträglich pompös. Das und sie hält das Versprechen, mit dem ihr sorgfältig aufgebautes Setting und die nuancierten Charaktere einen in die Story locken, nicht. Der Plot fällt nach drei Vierteln des Buches zusammen wie ein Soufflé. Das war jetzt nach der Tintenherz-Trilogie die letzte Chance, die ich ihr gegeben habe, ein fünftes Mal ärgere ich mich nicht mehr.

Es braucht nicht mehr als dieses Zitat um zu zeigen, wie absurd dieses Buch ist. Schon als Kind war ich verwirrt, wie sehr es aus der doch sehr verlässlich nach Formel geschriebenen ???-Reihe fällt. Als Erwachsene frage ich mich, wie es zustande kam. Ein lieblos und konfus heruntergeschriebener Krimi, dessen Autor weder die vorherigen Bücher noch einen echten Teenager je zu Gesicht bekommen hat.

A very relatable book for somebody who misses performing live on stage in the year 2021. But ultimately the characters were too flat and the plot too short to really hook me.

This is a thriller about a murder told from different perspectives and one of the few where this is not just used to conceal information from the readers and plant twists. Rather it shows how clueless parents, especially fathers, can be, regarding the life their teenage daughters lead. It also deals with topics like grooming and sexual abuse without playing them just for shock effects. The voice of Stella, the daughter of the family, comes into play last but is the most powerful and complex. It is a thriller I want to read again because the question who did it is actually not so important anymore. The audiobook is well done and Richard Armitage always at treat to listen to.

Zamonien und ich werden niemals Freunde werden und das ist auch völlig okay so. Es ist mir einfach etwas zu viel, zu viel Spielereien, zu viel Referenzen, zu viele Auflistungen und zu viel Übertreibungen. Ich glaube wenn das Buch nur etwa halb so lang gewesen wäre, ich hätte es großartig gefunden. Bitte nicht sagen, ich müsste nur X, Y, Z lesen, oder würde es nur einfach "nicht verstehen" - das ist exakt einer der Gründe, warum ich mit Zamonien nicht mehr warm werde in diesem einen Leben das ich eben zum Bücherlesen noch habe.
Mein Kind ist sehr begeistert, daher werde ich es wohl noch mindestens einmal vorlesen.

One of the favourites to read aloud here. The rhyme is memorable, I love the diverse figures on High Street and it has one of the best endings of those "let's go and collect things" picture books. The way the stores are illustrated are so detailed, you find something new every time. Not for too small toddlers because the pages are rather delicate.

I really loved the worldbuilding here but the suspension of disbelief was a bit too strained and too little was explained for my taste. Also the last location was the most interesting and could have easily been a whole book of it's own. Definitely an enjoyable read, though, I just wished there had been more depth here and there. It was very refreshing to read magic and mythology not built from Western lore and I definitely will read more from that author.

I read or listen to autobiographies in the hope of learning to see the world from a new angle. This book definitely does this and so much more. Noah is a born entertainer and storyteller and from minute one his narration hooked me. I had no idea how many hardships he had to face as a child before hearing his story but he manages to tell it without smothering in self pity - there are parts that left me stunned, touched and others laughing tears. I will see one of his live shows in spring and am already looking forward to it.
