Neil Gaiman: American Gods (Paperback, 2017, Headline) 4 stars

Review of 'Neil Gaiman American Gods 5 Books Collection Set' on 'Goodreads'

3 stars

Nice enough overall, but for two major points that both cost it one ★ each:
•The first part, the litany of American gods, was just too long
•That litany was missing the American Jesus. He gets mentioned in about one paragraph. Just ignoring the religiosity of American Real True Christians™ just doesn’t work. To the contrary, you could write so much about the differences between the American Jesus, say, the Catholic version of Jesus and a Jewish rabbi in 1st century Palestine.

Some more, minor point:
•Why is everybody talking about Laura as if she were still Shadow’s wife? “Until death do you part.” For a revenant “late wife” seems inappropriate. So “ex wife”.
•To quote from [a:Douglas Adams|4|Douglas Adams|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1189120061p2/4.jpg]’s HHGG: This is getting needlessly messianic. The son of (a) god, dying on a tree and coming back. Really‽
