This is an entertaining read and follow-up to the first book in the series. This story adds more characters and threads, which went a little overboard. I could keep track of things, but still, I wonder if all the threads were necessary. I am hooked and am now in the library queue for the third book in the series. Rachel and Nick were less in focus in this book. Of course I want more on Astrid in the third book, Mr. Kwan!! :)

4/5. Crazy Rich Asians was a slow burn for me (I think in large part because I saw the movie first and was expecting it to be lighter), but Kwan's richly detailed, almost anthropological writing style really worked for me in China Rich Girlfriend. I didn't want to stop reading!

A nice sequel to the previous one. The characters are still there, the ambiance/mood is still there as well, food and fashion still a big thing - generally speaking more of the same, but still damn entertaining.
