A little boy and his little sister awake one morning, milkless. Their mother is away on business, their father is buried in the paper, and their Toastios are dry. What are young siblings to do? They impress upon their father that his tea is also without milk and sit back to watch their plan take effect. But something goes amiss, and their father doesn’t return and doesn’t return some more. When he does, finally, he has a story to tell, a story involving aliens; pirates; ponies; wumpires (not the handsome, brooding kind); and a stegosaurus professor who pilots a Floaty-Ball-Person-Carrier (which looks suspiciously like a hot-air balloon). There is time travel, treachery, and ample adventure, and, fortunately, the milk he has procured is rescued at every turn.
Read this with my son & daughter... My daughter LOVED it, but my son thought it was just okay. I thought there were some cringey Indigenous and little people depictions, but I normally ❤ everything Neil Gaiman writes.
This was delightful, and everything I've come to expect from Gaiman. A must-have for the home library.
We thoroughly enjoyed this, a time travel book for kids. It feels like Neil Gaiman once got himself in a bit of bother with his kids and needed an excuse to get himself out of trouble. The illustrations were wonderful, something to look at on each page, the main character looking like the author really helps. If you like books with dinosaurs, pirates, aliens, human sacrifices and time travel, then this book is for you.

La verdad es que la combinación entre Neil Gaiman y Scottie Young es bastante alucinante. Absolutamente fan de los dos.
La historia de como el padre va a comprar la leche de sus hijos es bastante surrealista, y quien sabe si también real ¿por qué no? Tiene de todo: alienígenas, piratas, dinosaurios, vampiros (fampirros), ponys y sobre todo ¡¡una botella de leche!! Lo que más me gusta es la capacidad del padre para contarles a sus hijos el porqué de su retraso, que no pasaría de una simple anécdota con algún vecino, llena de imaginación desbordante.
Si tuviera que ponerle una pega es la cantidad de personajes (y aventuras) para una historia tan corta. Quiero decir que hubo un momento en que se me hizo un pelín cuesta arriba, por la aglomeración de personajes y acciones. Pero el resultado es surrealistamente genial.

Cute, imaginative children's book which is entirely the story that a father gives his children to explain why it took him so long to go to the store and get the milk. From alien abductions to mad professor dinosaurs to volcano god temples, time travel, and piranhas, the story that father tells weaves wildly all over until it finally delivers him back to the kitchen with milk in hand. A quick read for adults but amusing, and with charming black and white illustrations that kids will enjoy.
A swift, imaginative, and fun-filled romp.
