I spent most of this book confused, but in a good way! Hamilton wove a complex, interesting story through time and various perspectives. He handled the varied genres well, too... gritty crime novel, spy mission, action-packed rescue, and military YA. Definitely kept me thinking about the book between the times I could read it. John Lee does a phenomenal job narrating, as always.

не люблю коротких оповідань і повістей — навіть якщо їх нанизано на нитку центральної сюжетної лінії. якби не це — тема, темп, світ, персонажі, атмосфера сподобалися. не знаю поки що, чи читатиму серію далі.

p.s. начитка джона лі (john lee) — точно не для мене, дуже тяжко вислухати ці інтонації, що рвуть речення на шмаття :-/

For some reason I lost touch with Peter F. Hamilton's books after thoroughly enjoying his 'The Night's Dawn trilogy', but recently picked up this first in the salvation sequence.

This book introduces the cast and the main conflict of the books. In doing so, he presents a series of shorter stories (novella length I would say) that are all set in the same world. Each is a story on its own, with plot twists and clever developments all the way through.

I really enjoyed those little shards of the reality and how they come together in the end (and the second book, which I'm currently reading). It's an engaging story, lots of interesting tech and I like how he casually addresses a non-binary view of biological sex and sexual preference.

Promising. The narration jumps in episodes through the time and tells us about the mystery of an alien race named Olyix that visits the earth. The concept of portals in this books gives interesting plot twists and gives way to ideas like a penthouse with rooms in Paris, New York, on the moon and other places. Good mix between different episodes and characters ...
