Jade, the mysterious and magical substance once exclusive to the Green Bone warriors of Kekon, is now known and coveted throughout the world. Everyone wants access to the supernatural abilities it provides, from traditional forces such as governments, mercenaries, and criminal kingpins, to modern players, including doctors, athletes, and movie studios. As the struggle over the control of jade grows ever larger and more deadly, the Kaul family, and the ancient ways of the Kekonese Green Bones, will never be the same.

The Kauls have been battered by war and tragedy. They are plagued by resentments and old wounds as their adversaries are on the ascent and their country is riven by dangerous factions and foreign interference that could destroy the Green Bone way of life altogether. As a new generation arises, the clan’s growing empire is in danger of coming apart.

The clan must discern allies from enemies, set …

Gripping Conclusion

This was an amazing conclusion to this story. I would not have minded had this book been split in two since this one had the biggest time jump. By the end, these characters are so well-defined that you understand a lot of the agonizing decision that get made.

Even when we win, we suffer.

Standing ovation! Jade Legacy is a marathon of a book because it is all go, go, go. There is so much story, time that elapsed and characters covered that I was dizzy thinking back on the earlier chapters.

...our lives were shaped by the deaths of men we never knew.

Fonda Lee uses the progression of time carefully and doesn't handhold the reader to introduce them to when and where we are. A simple "time elapsed" counter starts off the next skip forward and you're dropped in to it. The seemingly effortless passage of time and bringing the reader up to speed and drop them right in the action was expertly done and the time skips didn't come across as jarring or disorientating.

Only children and gods are arrogant enough to judge what they can't understand. There's no point being afraid of their opinions. …

Amazing ending to an amazing series

Became one of my favourite series with this amazing sequel. I was afraid I would be disappointed by things would end but this book had made me happy, cry and cheer for these characters.

This is a worthy end to a fantastic trilogy. It's damn satisfying to watch these characters evolve.

There are "stand up and cheer" moments for sure, along with some gut punches that had me muttering "Jesus, Fonda..." as I paced in my kitchen with eyes burning.

I love this series, so it's a bit sad to see it end. But it's a beautiful thing to see it end so well.

I enjoyed this series immensely. The story is a roller coaster that is equal parts Korean Revenge Drama, Crouching Tiger Hiden Dragon, The Godfather, all laced with a wonderfully unique magic system.

I want to spend more time in Kekon.

An outstanding book - better than both City and War - and the end to one of the most imaginative, refreshing and gripping series I've ever read. As someone who advocates for brevity, it's not lightly that I say I'd happily read hundreds of pages more set in this world, or another novel entirely (Fonda Lee please).

The way its many, many plot threads are handled and intertwine with one another is masterful, filling in the world and its characters and leaving no stone unturned across its expansive timeline while avoiding becoming a hard-to-follow salad of disparate threads.

It doesn't hold back on the emotional punches like its predecessors either, I had to look up from the page at several chapters' end just to contemplate the impact of what had just happened.

It's smart in many ways. When the characters' interiorities are explored they're fully justified within the novel …
