My Man Jeeves is a collection of short stories by P. G. Wodehouse, first published in the United Kingdom in May 1919 by George Newnes. Of the eight stories in the collection, half feature the popular characters Jeeves and Bertie Wooster, while the others concern Reggie Pepper, an early prototype for Bertie Wooster. Revised versions of all the Jeeves stories in this collection were later published in the 1925 short story collection Carry On, Jeeves. One of the Reggie Pepper stories in this collection was later rewritten as a Jeeves story, which was also included in Carry On, Jeeves.
The first two stories are great, the third seems a little derivative, and then Jeeves is gone (until the very last story of the collection), and it feels like the author was trying desperately to recreate the success of the Jeeves stories without Jeeves, which inevitably fails.
Funny in a droll way, but a bit too obsolete of a world for me.
What a lovely way to end the day by listening to Stephen Fry read these fun and silly stories.
Very funny! Especially the English Accents. Almost needs to be read aloud. Rather predictable and a little quant but it is a "topping read and all that." Read ABSENT TREATMENT it is the funniest chapter.
