I haven't read Agatha Christie for years, so was wondering what it would be like. The Man in the Brown Suit is not a typical whodunit, despite starting off with a murder, but more of an adventure/spy story. Nevertheless it has her typical atmosphere and psychological insights. A definite comfort read (much needed after 'De avond is ongemak'/'the discomfort of evening') and very enjoyable.
Of course it is terribly dated in parts, not only with regard to the admiration of the English aristocracy, as with the rest of Christie, but especially seeing it is set partly in South Africa, the fact that every African is referred to as 'native or similar without a name.
Nevertheless, it is not really a problem to read it as a book of its time, and in some respects it was probably a bit progressive when it was published.
