"The physics of vulnerability is simple: If we are brave enough often enough, we will fall. The author of the #1 New York Times bestsellers Daring Greatly and The Gifts of Imperfection tells us what it takes to get back up, and how owning our stories of disappointment, failure, and heartbreak gives us the power to write a daring new ending. Struggle, Brene Brown writes, can be our greatest call to courage, and rising strong our clearest path to a wholehearted life"--

"With her 2010 TED talk on the power of vulnerability (over 18 million views), her bestselling books on the transformative gifts of shame and vulnerability, and her inspiring call for wholehearted living, Brene Brown has changed the cultural conversation. Her work has been embraced by Oprah Winfrey and corporate leaders alike making her a highly sought after public speaker. For Brene, the conversation about vulnerability and shame naturally …

Rising Strong

1) "Here’s how I see the progression of my work: The Gifts of Imperfection—Be you. Daring Greatly—Be all in. Rising Strong—Fall. Get up. Try again."

2) "I once made a map of my heart, and smack-dab in the center of that map I drew Lake Travis. [...] After long mornings of delivering Avon, we’d make sandwiches, pack them up, and grab a handful of worms from the worm farm Uncle Joe had made in a converted 1930s Westinghouse Coca-Cola ice chest in their backyard. With our lunch and bait, we’d head down to the dock to fish and float in inner tubes on the lake. I was never happier anywhere in my life than I was floating around on Lake Travis. I can still close my eyes and remember what it felt like to drift along in my tube, feeling the warm sun on my skin as …

This was not a book I cruised through. In fact, I had to check it out from the library twice and never built up a lot of momentum. It didn't feel super actionable to me, or concise. For a better summary than I can provide, see www.goodreads.com/book/show/15894631-men-women-and-worthiness, but the gist is three steps:

  1. Reckon with your emotions by noticing and investigating them.

  2. Rumble with the stories you tell yourself to uncover false beliefs.

  3. Revolutionize your attitude with …

Review of 'Rising Strong' on 'Goodreads'

I'd recommend this one to clients who struggle with resiliency or get lost in the (unhelpful) stories they tell themselves. Brown introduces the idea that most people - even assholes - are generally doing the best they can with what they've got, which is a great way to help people shift from blame toward compassion.

Review of 'Rising Strong' on 'Goodreads'

I got an advanced reader's copy of this book in the bookstore after I finished reading Daring Greatly.

I give this book 5 stars because:
- Brené succeeded yet again in communicating complex psychological phenomena in an easy to understand manner by telling stories that anyone can relate to
- Her language is simple and easy to understand
- Her openness and authenticity shines throughout the book
- She doesn't preach from the pulpit but take the courageous step to open up, share her story and be seen
- Reading this book I keep feeling & saying "me too" & I hear her empathetic voice saying "me too" as well
- She talks about the process but really says it's the practice that makes things work, I find that it's very true from experience and other readings

Her rising strong process is very similar to the process outlined in Healing …
