Since his wife died, Ralph Roberts has been having trouble sleeping. Each night he awakens a little earlier until he's barely sleeping at all. During his late night vigils and walks, he observes some strange things going on in Derry, Maine. He sees colored ribbons streaming from people's heads. He witnesses two strange little men wandering the city under cover of night. He begins to suspect that these visions are something more than hallucinations brought about by sleep deprivation. Ralph and his friend, widow Lois Chasse, become enmeshed in events of cosmic significance.

I really wanted to love this. The opening and first hundred pages or so we're so great. But it kept going and going and going and had a romance plot that I was not into and kept going and when it finally ended, I'm not so sure that I was happy that I finished it. I could have quit early on and perhaps appreciated the book a bit more.
Stephen King is my comfort food when it comes to literature, but reading this felt like homework. So happy to be done!

Magnificent! 5 stars in its own right. If I could give it a sixth for the Dark Tower references, I would. This should really The Dark Tower: An Aside.
