I found this novel felt slower than the previous three, and the prisoner of war story probably demanded a slower pace. There were enough mysteries here to keep me turning the pages, and it sets up the most interesting conflict in the series this far.
As the others in the series, well written, very likeable characters :) I very much liked it.
If you're a fan of the series, this is an enjoyable installment that pits Torin against mysterious captors, renegade troops, and all sorts of personal and environmental challenges. If you're unfamiliar with the series, probably not the best book to start with. Entertaining read but not highly memorable and I disliked the extremely deus ex machina ending.
Started this book Saturday morning around 9am. Stopped at 2pm, only because I had guests coming over. Finished it Sunday morning. I like Tanya Huff's books a lot, in general, but absolutely devour these Valor books. They are rah-rah, go Marines!, which is hardly my usual fare, but I adore them.
