Incredibly disappointing. A pan-solar shaggy dog story with thin characterisation and not much going on.
Profoundly disappointing and directionless. The characterisation is thin, the plot moves but seemingly erratically, and overall it’s bereft of ideas. This is the first in a series—I won’t be continuing.
I had to force myself somewhat to finish this book, hoping for an ending that would be worth it. There’s little chance I’ll read the rest of the series.
This is stylistically a very peculiar book. Interesting & unique. Content-wise, it is also quite interesting. It's plot line is not smooth; the plot is quite discontinuous although generally linear. I will read the next novel in the series to see what it feels like. For now, I remain on the fence about whether I enjoy the writer's style.
Individual moments of social upheaval through a generations-long voyage - some of these worked for me, others were distracting or forced, but I was pulled along as well.
