Confessions of a Shopaholic (Shopaholic, #1)

I would never have normally picked this up, but one of my novel-writing guidebooks uses it as an example, so I checked it out from the library.

It was fun, mostly believable, the pacing was interesting, and it totally followed the "beats" of Save the Cat! Writes a Novel.

Still it would not be my preferred cup of tea. After some dabbling in the genre, it seems that modern romance chick-lit is not really my thing. Unless there is some magical realism or cozy murder thrown in! LOL!

I only picked up this book because I was about to get on an airplane, had finished all my other reading, and the airport shop's selection was dismally small. Easy to read and it requires absolutely no concentration whatsoever; those are about the only good things I can say about the book.

The author seems to be trying to follow the cinderella story formula where poor suffering heroine is rewarded and lives happily ever after. The problem with this is that the heroine is irritating, shallow, and selfish, and fully deserves all the bad things that are happening to her and certainly does absolutely nothing to deserve the extremely improbable happy ever ending. I can't believe there were multiple sequels written to this book; I would have to be trapped in an airport without any other reading options before I would even consider spending money on any more of them.

My baby sister is making me read this. shwe gave me the whole set to read. since she doesn't read much and loves these. I'm thinking there might be something to them.
