Petals to the Metal
The introduction of a car race as a central part of this arc was a bit jarring, but fun. What enhanced this volume was a touching ending that restored a sense of mystery and forward momentum.
The characters are set, the setting is a character and maybe the plot sort of works.
Lotttta racing for the final payoff which is beautiful.
4.75 Pretty dang awesome comic and the best adaptation of The Adventure Zone podcast so far. Engaging story, zany characters, weird happenings and some dark foreboding all mixed into one awesomely illustrated package. The only criticism I have to offer are the among of black pages between the chapters (really useless and not very environmentally friendly) and the overuse of the "Fantasy Costco", "Fantasy Savings and Loans" etc. joke.
For some reason I found this one particularly funny. I think Pietsch has really hit her stride and is bringing TAZ to life in a truly unique and gorgeous way. I'm always so bummed when I remember I have to wait a year for the next one :(
