Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk

I know that my rating and review for this are biased. Take one glance at my shelves here and you can see that I'm a sucker for animal related fiction. I'm also a sucker for art, and seeing Ian Falconer's once oh-so-innocent work turned vulgar smashed against David Sedaris' cutting cynicism is a real treat for me.

Are the stories really that original when you get down to it? Honestly, not really, but they're still a lot of fun and many of them (not all, but many) are told in some pretty unique ways. Some are misses, but they're still enjoyable.

I'd highly recommend listening the excellent audio book version as well. Hearing an actor read many of these stories out really does refresh the humor.

I love me some Sedaris, but I prefer his memoirs to his animal parables.

David Sedaris is a great comedian thanks to his cutting observations about his experiences. Atypically, this book is neither comedic nor about real life. It's written like a storybook for kids, but each story has a shocking ending, anti-moral, or explicit content.

It's the perfect bedtime book to read to your manchild, but there's little enjoyment for anyone else.

I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as some of his other work.

A collection of animal-based parables. Hilarious, sometimes a little nasty, and a fun, fast read. My favorite was "The Sick Rat and the Healthy Rat." Couldn't stop laughing or groaning.
