Balise reviewed Lock In by John Scalzi (Lock In, #1)

It's both a good book and a bit of a disappointment. I had read Unlocked in June and I was very excited about Lock In; and after reading it, I'm... less excited. In the world described in Unlocked, Chris is a Haden patient: he's paralyzed in his bed, but he can walk around freely thanks to a "threep", a kind of mind-controlled robot. It's his first day as a FBI agent, and he's on the case of someone who died in unclear circumstances. The sole witness is an Integrator (someone who can lend his body to Hadens), which makes the identity of the real culprit somewhat problematic.
I feel Lock In could have been a bit longer. It's still very nice: it does have a "Caves of Steel" (Asimov) feeling; but I was hoping for awesome...
