I haven't felt this inspired in a long time. All too often, we settle. We get comfortable, and we don't challenge ourselves, or tolerate discomfort. That's how we get into situations where we don't feel happy, and aren't living up to our full potential. This book teaches valuable tools for conquering our demons, and establishing a mindset to keep going past perceived limitations. It's a book written by a survivor of abuse and racism, who taught himself how to break out of the cycle, join the military, and become an endurance athlete. When you inevitably fail, you must be honest, and reflect on why and how it happened. Then you have to pick up and keep going. It's your life to live! Nobody can do it better than you.
I would have a better use of this story when I was about to leave my country back in 2014 but I can pull some tips 5 years later, the stories are Stoic in nature thus they will never get old.
I missed the intellectual part in that book though, the challenges described where 90% physical and we aren't monkeys, after all, it is hard to relate your life to that of David's, nothing in common to say the least and his ghostwriters failed to make it something more than 'pumping iron' stories.
I will still buy the paperback version for my shelves, I wish it was jucier though

David Goggins has overcome incredible odds, and done some amazing things. Unfortunately his book just isn't terribly readable, and I stopped (according to my Kindle) 65% of the way through.
First issue, it's repetitive. His personal story is very compelling, and if he had stuck mostly to that, I would have flown through the book. However, interspersed in the chapters, are his "How I became so tough" talk. While I understand that this is the point of the book, it is introduced the same way every time, and the advice is basically "be tough."
Second, Goggins is misogynistic in his language, and I just got fed up. Weak people are "pussies" and, upon encountering the phrase that he needed to "hem his vagina" I called it quits. I won't say he's a misogynist, since I don't know the man. But going by this book, I know where I'd put my …

Lots of people love the book, so it may be for you. For my money, there are much better written ones out there.
