"Trudy has betrayed her husband, John. She's still in the marital home--a dilapidated, priceless London townhouse--but John's not here. Instead, she's with his brother, the profoundly banal Claude, and the two of them have a plan. But there is a witness to their plot: the inquisitive, nine-month-old resident of Trudy's womb. Told from a perspective unlike any other, Nutshell is a classic tale of murder and deceit from one of the world's master storytellers"--

I enjoyed it. Was cool to have the odd perspective though it required a heavy amount of suspension of disbelief, still was fast and fun to read. First Ian McEwan book I've read. Especially enjoyed the descriptions of wines and the way the narrator has such limited information and has to be constantly re-evaluating his interpretation of things.

Some people won't like this book because they won't be able to accept a fetus as a credible narrator. But for those who can suspend disbelief - they will enjoy a completely fresh take on a crime novel.

Side note: I listened to this as an audiobook and am convinced that at least part of my enjoyment came from the person reading it... with his crisp British accent, it was easy to imagine the pre-birth narrator as a shrewd Stewie Griffin from Family Guy.

Short but hardly sweet - this was a delight.
