Review of 'Summary of Sapiens' on 'Goodreads'

I really enjoyed this book. I started out thinking that I knew pretty much everything that he was initially writing about but he eventually makes conclusions and observations which I hadn’t heard of before.

It seemed to me that his literary style at times was influenced by “The Book” in the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and that Sapiens could be the entry for the prominent ape species that inhabited The Earth and that many parts could be chapters in such a guide to The Earth. It would be really fun to read this book with illustrations and animations in the style of “The Book” and I would have loved to heard it narrated by Peter Jones.

I definitely will read it again some time.

I liked this book and plan on reading the sequel, "Homo Deus," in the near future. Sapiens covers everything from the dawn of humankind to the modern day; so not surprisingly, few things were covered in an kind of depth. That said, Yuval did a fair job of covering the different topics and offered several perspectives I hadn't heard before.

This can come across as a bit "preachy" at times, even to a mostly sympathetic reader. I think it would be a turnoff for someone who disagreed with his worldview. It didn't bother me enough to downgrade my opinion of the book but if I was offering him editorial feedback I would have suggested paring some of this back because I don't think it served to make the book more impactful and it was already a hefty read. Overall though I learned a tremendous amount and think …
