Review of 'Lucky' on 'Goodreads'

Lucky is Alice Sebold's moving memoir of her 1981 rape, at the very end of her freshman year at Syracuse University. Sebold describes, vividly, the rape, her feelings about it, and how she coped with the reactions she got from family and friends. Also, she perceived herself as an outsider, forever different, marked. It is an indepth exploration of what this rape did to her life, and what she's been through emotionally, afterwards. At the end, I found myself feeling very concerned and sad for Sebold, about what must be a constant struggle. As she wrote at the very end of her memoir, "...I live in a world where the two truths coexist; where both hell and hope lie in the palm of my hand."

I'll add that certain aspects of the justice system, as described by Sebold, are sad and shocking.
