nerd teacher [books] reviewed The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson
It's okay.
3 stars
Interesting in that a mouse creates a monster that, in this world, actually exists. Not a brilliant story, not a terrible one.

Just what is the Gruffalo? "He has terrible tusks, and terrible claws, and terrible teeth in his terrible jaws."
But do all those things make him the scariest creature in the deep dark wood? One brave little mouse wiht a big imagination doesn't think so! (front flap)

I really enjoy reading this book to my daughter and she loves looking at the stunning illustrations. It always ends up taking a long time to read this as there are usually a million questions about what is going on in the pictures.
One of my kids' favorites. But it is even better in the Dutch translation. The alliteration and rhymes work better in that language than in English.
