I have another Tom Gourdie book, Handwriting for Today, but I think this is meant to be an important book.

I’ve known about Emily for a while, but haven’t read her books. Ned Boulting recommended this one.

This book seemed to be recommended from multiple places at the same time: from the Ravnous book; from my wife; and, randomly, from Nick Offerman.

So far, it's a beautiful breath of fresh air after the more serious books I've recently read.

Scott Carney is a journalist, so knows how to write, so in that respect the book is OK.

It's just so macho (pushing your body to the limits, conquering mountains), the cast is almost 100% men, and Wim Hof seems such a strange (problematic?) character, so it's a bit wearing and frustrating.

After James Nestor’s Breath and the Wim Hof stuff, I might as well read this book, too.

Oh, it turns out he’s a bully and a wife-beater, so I won’t read this book or any others of his.

Jim Perrin is apparently one of the best mountain writers alive. This is the book the library had, so I’m giving it a go.

The book does end with some hope for the future, but not much. It's an excellent book, clearly covering so much, and so does a great job of showing the scale of the problems and the magnitude of the resistance to change from the corporations and politicians.

I'm about half-way through. It's a very good book; there's a lot of information being clearly and logically laid out for the reader.

But, by golly, it's depressing. Just an unending list of things wrong with the food system, and nothing is being done about it.
