The 5th Wave

I remember seeing the movie trailer and going hrmmm. Remember starting the movie and not much else. So when I spotted this book at the library I got super curious. What actually happened. What's the 5th wave. Etc

Now it had a lot of the tropes. Badass girl. Girl not being noticed. Girl falling for pretty boy. And honestly none of them felt too much or overwhelming. I got super curious about things, and enough time was spent on the main characters that I got invested. Only had one real moment near the start of "huh. That's an odd choice for a male writer of a female character to do".

Was it the best thing ever? Not by a long shot. But it kept me interested and I may even pick up the sequels sometime

Ps. Tried watching the movie again tonight. It was absolutely aweful.

this begins as a good apocalyptic sci-fi, not too primitive, not too teenish, not too action-driven. good stuff. than for some reason the author decides to do a «twilight» part, and it's as tedious and cringy and out of place as it gets... but somehow the story continues, and it's quite an interesting read after all. i think i'll go on and give it the 4 stars despite those «twilight» parts.

Interesting story and characters. A quick, entertaining read.

The first 100 or so pages felt derivative, but the book picked up after that and is a worthwhile read.

Omg, this book is fascinating! And it's not the usual dystopian scheme. I like the ironic, dry Cassie and her sweet brother. Also the ... Eh.. Other persons were realistic and you feel with them instantly. The plot is very surprising and unforeseeable (is that even a word?). I am so happy that I already ordered the second book of the series!! Need more!

Has some of the things I don't like about YA fiction (clumsy love triangles, a fascination with describing the flawless physical characteristics of love interests/rivals), but an otherwise captivating story. I read the first 250 pages or so in one sitting, stopping only because I had managed to wedge myself into an uncomfortable position in my chair. I don't really get much into YA fiction, and especially not YA series, but I'm really looking forward to reading the second book in this one.

I was riveted by this book and read it pretty much in one sitting. Despite some aspects being somewhat stereotypical, overall I thought it was great.
