Steal Like an Artist: 10 Things Nobody Told You About Being Creative is a book on coming up with creative ideas written by Austin Kleon and published in 2012 from Workman Publishing. The book, has since then become a New York Times Bestseller. Kleon presents himself as a young writer and artist emphasizing that creativity is everywhere and is for everyone. In his own words, "You don’t need to be a genius, you just need to be yourself".
great booster of a book. Gets you thinking on the right track as far as getting creative and just going with it. Some common sense stuff we all need to remind ourselves of, but also some things that we need to give ourselves permission to do sometimes.
This is really fabulous.
He is funny, wise as hell, and every small page glows with powerful inspiration. Not cheesy, but right to the heart. I hate turning it back in to the library, so might have to break down and get a copy to dip into, in those times of weirdness and doubt that all creators slog through.
Cool enough but very superficial. Just throwing big ideas in a nice font then not developing them.
A compact, practical burst of inspiration that rests on you setting free what is already inside you. I needed this. I loved it.

Like Show Your Work, Steal Like an Artist is a lovely, super-short collection of aphorisms and quotes about creativity and inspiration that never quite crosses the line of 'cloying'. Some great practical advice. I can see myself hitting this up for a quick dose of inspiration when I'm feeling creatively flat.
