Anna Fox spends her day drinking wine, watching old movies, and spying on her neighbors. But when she sees something she shouldn't, Anna's world begins to crumble.

This was really good...besides being predictable, having a few bizarre choices, and being obviously a man trying to write from a woman's perspective (we aren't generally that surprised when a tough female cop has an effeminate voice, for example). And he maybe should have researched child psychology better before writing this. Good, old fashioned whodunnit, in more ways than one (I refuse to believe even Baby Boomers are this internet illiterate). The film noir references were the only clever parts.
I really liked the use of old movies in this one.
загалом непогано, як на свій жанр, і висмоктана з пальця розв'язка теж цілком в рамках жанру, нмсд.
The main character was SO sad; she made me cry more than once :-(. The book was great. "Gas lighting" was evident from the start, but one never knew where was coming from and who was responsible. Impressions of the characters were constantly changing, but they were all appropriate, and although things didn't necessarily and the way one expected them to, there were no unreasonable leaps of belief.
I just reread the book. I remembered none the my first reading, but times not a commentary on the writing. I still liked it as well – still a good psychological thriller full of psychology, gas lighting, chills and thrills
I've got mixed feelings about this book. I might need more of a break from the unreliable narrator thing. I won't go into a whole lot of detail because there are so many twists and red herrings that I'm afraid I'll give something away and ruin someone's fun.
Because of the issues the protagonist has, I could never be sure about what was real and what wasn't. That forced me to stop guessing and my favorite part of mysteries is guessing.
There were a few bullshit moments but, I think, the biggest of them all was the final reveal. I get wanting to get that "ah ha!" from a reader but my reaction was more "ugh, what the fuck?!"
The resolution and wrap up at the end was okay but by then, I was mostly over it. Which was really too bad because there were several places in the book …

I went back and forth between the ebook and the audio versions. They each had their strengths and weaknesses. The transcripts from the Agora were much better to read with eyeballs but the narrator definitely added some tension and emotion during the more intense scenes.
If you're a lover of The Girl on the Train and Gone Girl, you'll very likely want to read this.
Satisfying mystery/noir with a tragic twist.
Superb read. I figured out halfway whodunit, but that didn't mean I enjoyed it any less! Can't wait to see this in the cinema.
Really liked this book. The one thing that annoyed me was how much Anna drank. I got a bit sick of that story arc, but I loved this book otherwise. I wondered how good the book would be, since it was about an agorophobic, which I did learn more about. I was able to predict some of the ending, which was why the book got the rating hat it did. I wasn't able to figure out all of it however. The book did make me want to kee reading though. :)
