loftypancake reviewed The Moomins and the Great Flood by Tove Jansson (Mumintrollen, #1)
My review of The moomins and the great flood
5 stars
It reads like a fascinating fever dream, very entertaining.
The Moomins and the Great Flood (in the original Swedish it is The Little Trolls and the Great Flood) is a book written by Finnish author Tove Jansson in 1945. It was the first book to star the Moomins during the end of World War II, but is often seen as a prequel to the main Moomin books, as most of the main characters are introduced in the next book. This was the last Moomin book to be translated into English. It was published by Schildts as a limited hardback version in 2005, to celebrate 60 years of the Moomins.
It reads like a fascinating fever dream, very entertaining.
4.25 Charming, cute and a little thoughtful - a female-driven picaresque that manages to enchant, but also shows that the author still had a little way to polishing her craft. Also quite short compared to the later titles unless I am mistaken.
Been trying to get my hands on this one for ages. it is exactly as good as I'd hoped, which is very good.
Sehr süß :3
The first appearance. Already charming and wonderfully quirky.
