Cien años de soledad es una novela del escritor colombiano Gabriel García Márquez, ganador del Premio Nobel de Literatura en 1982. Es considerada una obra maestra de la literatura hispanoamericana y universal, cumbre del denominado "realismo mágico". Es asimismo una de las obras más traducidas y leídas en español. Narra la historia de la familia Buendía a lo largo de siete generaciones en el pueblo ficticio de Macondo.

Cien años de soledad is considered the best work of García Márquez. A novel that narrates the vicisitudes of Aureliano Buendía in the mythic Macondo, a town in some unknown region of Colombia. This novel was written in the magic realism ("realismo mágico"), a style that mix together amazing elements taken by fiction and reality.

Review of 'Cien años de soledad' on 'Goodreads'

I have read this a few times. I don't quite recall the first time I read it (probably sometime in the 80s back in high school when mom first gave it to me), but I make it a point to reread this book every so often (about a year or two give or take in between readings). It is simply an amazing novel. The edition I list was my mother's copy, an old paperback from Argos Vergara publisher. It is falling apart by now, but so far, I have not caved in to buy a new copy yet. The Buendia family always shows me something new everytime I visit with them. If I get stranded someplace, I want this to be one of the books I have with me.

I didn't enjoy Marquez's style very much when I first read OHYS, but on reflection I was mostly too immature to appreciate it. Worth a read.
