Lina is just like any other fifteen-year-old Lithuanian girl in 1941. She paints, she draws, she gets crushes on boys. Until one night when Soviet officers barge into her home, tearing her family from the comfortable life they’ve known. Separated from her father, forced onto a crowded and dirty train car, Lina, her mother, and her young brother slowly make their way north, crossing the Arctic Circle, to a work camp in the coldest reaches of Siberia. Here they are forced, under Stalin’s orders, to dig for beets and fight for their lives under the cruelest of conditions.

This a magnificent historical tale of love, loss, and hope. The suffering so many experienced dragging humanity through the horrors of Stalin and Hitler must neither be diminished nor forgotten.

Lina's story not only exemplifies the dilemmas, strength and hardships required to simply survive but, also, emphasizes the dimension of time required to achieve modicums of success.

For the first third of the book I was somewhat confused and put-off by the overall storytelling and content of this book. I didn't realize that it was a young adult novel and so didn't understand the emotional pallet being applied, nor the choices in the voice …

RESEÑA COMPLETA EN: flightsofadreamer.blogspot.com.es/2017/07/resena-entre-tonos-de-gris-ruta-sepetys.html

"Aunque
