Dance Dance Dance (ダンス・ダンス・ダンス, Dansu Dansu Dansu) is the sixth novel by Japanese writer Haruki Murakami. First published in 1988, it was translated into English by Alfred Birnbaum in 1994. The book is a sequel to Murakami's novel A Wild Sheep Chase. In 2001, Murakami said that writing Dance Dance Dance had been a healing act after his unexpected fame following the publication of Norwegian Wood and that, because of this, he had enjoyed writing Dance more than any other book.

Kirja, joka on samaan aikaan niin tyypillistä Murakamia, ettei siitä luulisi saavan enää mitään uutta irti, ja samaan aikaan niin oudolla tavalla kiehtova, että sivuja ahmii jännittyneenä eteenpäin. Jälleen kerran päähenkilö on kolmekymppinen hieman epätavanomaista uraa tehnyt freelancer (siis ei salariman-man), joka lähtee jollekin mystiikan ja fantasian rajoja lähentelevälle henkilökohtaiselle löytöretkelle ja pohtii kuluttajaksi pelkistyneen ihmisen asemaa kapitalismissa ja omia naissuhteitaan. Toisin sanoen kirjan naiskuva on murakamilaisen naiivi, mutta muuten jälleen kerran tykkäsin!

A great follow-up to "A Wild Sheep Chase," which continues the story with the same narrator from the first book.

The main character is pulled back to the hotel where things first got really weird, but the hotel is gone. It has been replaced with a large, luxury hotel with the same name. Everything is sleek and new, except for the fact that there are strange stories and rumors of elevator experiences. Stories that get hushed and put away.

If you liked "A Wild Sheep Chase," you will likely enjoy this book too. I would NOT recommend reading "Dance Dance Dance" without first having read the other book, though, because there is so much backstory. One would feel very, very lost (more than the normal Murakami disorientation).

I think this series peaked with A wild sheep chase, Dance Dance Dance just doesn't flow as well. it is still a good book but I did struggle getting through all the time spent in Hawaii. One thing I have noticed with Murakami's books is you have to pay attention to everything that happens, even something as simple as somebody saying they don't like a car is important to future plot twists.

The thing that does stop this from getting five stars was the ending, I didn't like it, it feels like quite a cold finish to the series, I invested a lot of time reading this series and I felt a bit short changed with the suddenness to the end, too many unanswered questions, this must have been how viewers of lost felt. It's not going to put me off reading more Murakami though, I do love his style …

Zijn zesde, mijn eerste; ik was op slag verliefd op dit boek. Dance Dance Dance is zeker niet Murakami’s beste boek, maar wel degene die me volledig om de vinger wist te winden.

Een roman doordrenkt van detectives, sigarenrook en whisky? Reken maar van jazz. De naamloze hoofdpersoon besluit het Dolphin Hotel te bezoeken, een plek waar hij jaren geleden voor het laatst kwam met een vergeten liefde. Nu is hij terug om Kiki te vinden, een 13-jarig meisje met bovenzintuiglijke krachten dat hem in zijn dromen naar het Dolphin Hotel lokte. Wat volgt is een caleidoscopisch avontuur dat nauwelijks valt te samenvatten.

En dat is ook de charme van dit boek. Van een plot is niet echt sprake: het is een aaneenrijging van surreële momenten, een zoektocht waarin tegenstellingen en tegenstrijdigheden er steeds voor zorgen dat de lezer geen vaste grond onder de voeten krijgt. Dat was als een …

Stunning tour de force. I love Murakami more with every book of his I read. The ending was completely unexpected and perfect.
