Gandalf's Wild Ride
3 stars
read for shelved by genre's lord of the year gandalf is just like, a real piece of shit in this one. he just sucks. great character.
i cant tell if i had middling feelings about this book because its a 3/5 or because i've been so desensitised to everything in it. tolkiens language gets really weird and clunky sometimes in it? not in an archaic way. the plot is solved by the biggest deus ex machina ever and tolkien definitely bit off move dwarves than he could chew.
ultimately, though, it's a kids' book and lives up to being one of those. i think if i were eight and didnt know about things like 'ideology' i would be having great fun.
