From three partners at Google Ventures, a unique five-day process for solving tough problems, proven at more than a hundred companies.

Entrepreneurs and leaders face big questions every day: What’s the most important place to focus your effort, and how do you start? What will your idea look like in real life? How many meetings and discussions does it take before you can be sure you have the right solution?

Now there’s a surefire way to answer these important questions: the sprint. Designer Jake Knapp created the five-day process at Google, where sprints were used on everything from Google Search to Google X. He joined Braden Kowitz and John Zeratsky at Google Ventures, and together they have completed more than a hundred sprints with companies in mobile, e-commerce, healthcare, finance, and more.

A practical guide to answering critical business questions, Sprint is a book for teams of any size, from …

A quick read, but has untold requirements

First off, the essence of the book is available on the book web site. The book takes that information and puts dialog and stories around it.

If you know Agile or Scrum or Kanban, there isn't much here that is unique. The book takes one through a milestone based week, day by day, for a team to deliver something on this methodology.

What's missing is how to bring this culture to one's workplace - implementing this will need management and financial support. Nothing is free. Large companies can do these types of iterations. Smaller companies fighting for their life probably won't be able to.

It's well written. And a quick read. I found the heavy paper to be kind of annoying as I thought I might have turned more than 1 page. But I'm giving it a lower score given the essence is available on the book web site and …

The terminology a bit different then the standard agile sprint. It offers a pretty detailed process for getting a prototype tested to evaluate any big unknown in the matter of a week. Even if you don't go with the full methodology, a lot of the brainstorming/meeting tricks seem pretty useful.

Forget Failing Fast and Start Sprinting Smart

Solve big problems and test new ideas in just five days with seven people working together for seven hours a day. Author Jake Knapp and his partners from Google Ventures have perfected their five day sprint method with over a hundred real life sprints with companies from Slack to Blue Bottle Coffee and many other portfolio companies.

Sprint gives you a day-by-day breakdown with schedules and checklists. It has high level details like how to set the stage with the right team at the right time and place, medium level details like how to re-frame problems as opportunities, sketch solutions, storyboard, prototype and conduct test interviews and also the nitty-gritty level details like why you should break for lunch at 1 PM, use yellow sticky notes, big and little dots, and use white board markers instead of Sharpies. After completing this easy, but …
