I quite enjoyed the first three books in this series. This one, however, leaned hard into animal peril and animal harm as a source of tension, and I didn't appreciate that at all. There was enough I did like about it to give it 3 stars, but that's rounding up--it's really more like 2.5 stars for me. If it had been a standalone novel, I probably wouldn't have finished it, but as part of a series I had been enjoying, I did finish it. Hopefully the next one will be different.
