Mar 2 2024: breath of fresh air. Loved the character and world building. Major Howl’s Moving Castle Vibes. Studio Ghibli-esque if you will. Loved the bond between Biddy and Rowan. Wanted to see more of their dynamic— especially towards the end. Slow in some places but found I didn’t mind. Fast read— only took me so long because of work lol.

Kate Dramis: Curse of Saints (2023, Sourcebooks, Incorporated)

Feb 6: loved this book. Especially considering the books I’ve read before this one. Loved the characters so so much— they felt dynamic and were engaging. Aya’s arc throughout was nicely done. I feel like it can be hard to balance writing a strong female character that has flaws and making her completely irredeemable. Maybe that’s just me. The world itself was interesting— I’m excited to see how the world is fleshed out in the next book. Plot twists inside of plot twists. I felt like I was always on my toes trying to get one step ahead of the characters.

C. S. Pacat: Dark Rise (2021, HarperCollins Publishers)

December 2023 (first-read): There are no words that I could write to explain how much I enjoyed reading this book. I've had Dark Rise on my shelf for over a year (maybe two) and forgot what the book was supposed to be about. Going into the novel blind made the whole journey ten times more interesting. The main characters were all so lovely-- even some of the side characters! I can't wait to see their progression in the next book.

But, the biggest reason this book had me was the plot twists! It has been awhile since a book genuinely had me audibly shocked to the point that my roommate had to check on me because she thought I was having a break down. Pacat did an awesome job at drawing you in to the point that you're blind to what is going on. In the best way possible. Loved …

December 2023 (first-read): Okay. I put it off because I wasn't a fan of Nesta as a character (at least not enough to read a whole book from her pov). But, I was definitely surprised! At first I wasn't sure where her characterization was going, but I loved it. Also loved the new characters that were introduced. Gwyn my love. ALSO: SIBLING BONDS! I loveeeeee that shit.
