Michael Schur: How to Be Perfect (2022, Simon & Schuster)

Review of 'How to Be Perfect' on 'Goodreads'

Excellent book! It felt very much like The Good Place tv series, but switching the balance of entertainment and moral philosophy. It presents a lot of deep moral philosophy ideas, in a very approachable way. For example, from the tv show, I had heard of virtue ethics, but now I really understand that it's all about balance. I almost want to go back and watch the show again, just because I feel like I'll understand Chidi so much better! It was also a really nice touch to have the actors come and voice some of the content for the audiobook.

I definitely recommend this book to anyone and everyone!

reviewed The Fall of Babel by Josiah Bancroft (Books of Babel, #4)

Josiah Bancroft: The Fall of Babel (2021, Little, Brown Book Group Limited)

Review of 'The Fall of Babel' on 'Goodreads'

A good ending to a great series. Personally, I would've liked things wrapped up with less questions at the end, but many of the major plot points had a satisfying resolution. The worldbuilding continued to be amazing, and the tower was as wonderful and intriguing as ever. I highly recommend the whole series to anyone looking for a unique world and interesting characters with quite a bit of growth.

Josiah Bancroft, Banks, John: The Hod King Lib/E (AudiobookFormat, 2019, Orbit)

Review of 'The Hod King Lib/E' on 'Goodreads'

Excellent book! It had me interested almost the whole time. The pacing was good, and the switch in perspectives had me always waiting for the cliffhangers of the others to be resolved. The worldbuilding also remains very good, and I'm eager to see how everything is resolved in the final book!

Wow. Excellent storytelling and worldbuilding. There were some slow moments early on, but the whole second half had me wanting to keep going the whole time. On to the Hod King!

Review of 'Senlin Ascends' on 'Goodreads'

Very unique world, with a compelling plot, and plenty of mystery. It was a bit slow to start, and I had to get used to the narrator's accent, but soon I found myself wanting to listen more. Senlin definitely feels Bilbo-esque in his naivety and how he gets pulled into things without meaning to. I'm excited for the next book!

Review of 'Project Hail Mary' on 'Goodreads'

Excellent book, from beginning to end! I think I finished that audiobook faster than any others so far. I didn't want to stop!

The book has accurate science, plenty of mystery/unknown, believable characters, and a good conflict.

Review of 'Changes' on 'Goodreads'

Excellent peak in the series. This book is aptly named, because it marks a milestone in the larger plot. In my head, I tend to think about this series in terms of "pre-Changes" and "post-Changes".

Having read the rest of the series, I must say this isn't a great start. It gives some idea of who Harry is, but I don't think we really get to see him for another book or two.

Review of 'How to Be an Antiracist' on 'Goodreads'

Very insightful. I especially like how he starts each section with definitions. The meaning behind language is everything. Before reading this book, the word "racist" conjured up imagery of old white men wearing pointed capes. But it is much more nuanced than that. Racism has many aspects, and it's important to pay attention to all of them.
