A lot of this advice is geared towards people a few years younger than me (millenials), so eventhough Remit's advice on paying off student debts and getting married didn't apply I found a lot of useful - remembering to max you credit card available limit, calling to waive fees, owning a home and car for 10 years, and using dollar cost averaging to buy ETFs is all good advice.

I'm glad he's honest enough to say that no one tracks their spending, although I know one person who claims to. And if you want to spend $5k year on shoes that might be ok.

For a sequel, I'd like advice on not spending a fortune on kids, raising kids with financial literacy, how to save for college.

This will forever be my favorite personal finance book. I read it in college and it was really helpful and has shaped a lot of my personal finance philosophy, and I just read it again and picked up even more than I did the first time and actually grasped a lot of the things Ramit talks about with investing. Thinking I’m going to make it a regular thing to read this book once every few years!

I don't usually read a lot of finance or how to get rich books. But I found out about this one online and was curious about it so I gave it a go.
The author definitely sounds a bit too much like a frat boy for my taste. He is cocky, and a little bit annoying in his style, but his ideas are clear organised and the book is an easy (and surprisingly fun) read.
But once you get past the immature jokes and self serving attitude it is, as far as I can see, a reasonable and sound financial strategy for most of us, the financially illiterate.
So that's why it gets 3 stars for me. It is useful and helpful, clear, organized and concise. I don't think I would want to be friends with Ramit Sethi, but I really feel like I learned something that I can use …

Its easy to take a quick look at the gimmicky title of this book and roll your eyes. Yet, I feel like there is enough meat here to make it a worthwhile read for the average up and coming college grad. The book is not without its flaws. For instance, I can appreciate Ramit's desire to show us "exactly how its done" and document the hard details of his personal finances but this quickly ages the book (which isn't even that old!) since the bargains and dreamy interest rates he writes about are long gone.

Overall, the advice he gives is solid for the most of us but a bit too lenient for those with hyper aspirations toward Financial Independence. Ramit's suggestion of attaining a target saving's rate of 10 percent while spending 20-30 percent of income as "fun money" doesn't really jive with my reasoning but I realize that …
