I guess it is a lot more interesting when you're 12 or something. I found it like a Disney alternative princess story where the protagonist is being so mistreated (again), until someone finally sees their talent and true value and they turn out to be a true genius everyone should be praising. Hmmh.

Okay so I have a new theory about the Pern books, and it's that if you sorted them by the number of times a dude gives a woman "a little shake" from none to TOO MANY, you would have a list of the books in decreasing order of quality.

I read this after Dragonsong, but still out of order from the overall correct order to read these books.

I liked this book quite a bit. Other than length, I'm not sure why this book is suggested for an older age group than Dragonsong. I read this book quite fast and am well immersed in Pern at this point.

Clearly, parts of this story reflect things that occur in Dragonflight and Dragonquest, which is why you would want to read those books first, but they just are refered to, so I am enjoying the stories as they are told.
