Erin reviewed The Power of Myth by Joseph Campbell
Review of 'The Power of Myth' on 'Goodreads'
I don’t really know what to rate this! The interview format made it hard for me to fully grasp his framework and how his ideas fit together. I want to understand something more before I rate it. “God has no circumference” - what are we talking about??
Both men said a lot of things with confidence, but I wondered how true everything was. There were a lot of claims made that I sometimes needed more information on, like patriarchy “arising” instead of being there from the start. Again, the interview format didn’t help with this.

So much of what they said about Christianity felt like the deconstruction a lot of evangelicals are experiencing right now. They had critiques for how Christians have used Christianity, but they also gave me more respect for the myths. They put them in the context of other myths, and viewing the stories that way was helpful.
It was thought-provoking sometimes, but overall kind of forgettable because I just didn’t understand enough!
