During my high school years, I read Marked. Despite my hatred for Zoey Redbird, I’m curious about what’s about to happen to her. I only read the first five books of the series before stopping.

One day at school, a Tracker marked Zoey Redbird and turned her into a vampire. With a refreshingly fresh take on the vampire legends, this story combines matriarchy and goddess worship to a pleasing effect. The Goddess Nyx has marked Zoey specially she given a special responsibility and added gifts, which she will need since there is something wrong at the House of Night, and her own mentor and High Priestess may not be as gentle and caring as she claims to be.

The first thing you need to know about Zoey is that she is such a hateful person. It has been a long time since I read about an MC who radiates such …

Yes, I am a sucker for vampire novels. I have read pretty much every one that I came across since I was a kid. This one ticks a lot of the boxes. It is fun, has a pretty original world. I like to see a vampire novel set in modern America, in which Vampires are not a secret. It is fun. The House of Night schools are a cool idea. There is decent plot, and okay-ish characters. If it weren't for my love of vampires, I would probably give this a 2, but as I like pretty much anything to do with them, it gets a 3.

Quite an interesting book, the method of becoming a vampire was good, not something I have come across in the many vampire stories I've read. The book also features a bit of magic and you can't help but love Stevie. I did find this book quite addictive and it didn't take long to read.

Surprised this hasn't been picked up for a movie by now, it's very Harry Potter-ish, but with vampires. It gets a higher rating than Potter as the writing is better. Must get back into this series one day.

This book is horribly written. Like HORRIBLY. The descriptive prose is often laughable, the dialogue is stiff and hackneyed, and considering it was written by a mother/daughter team with the daughter being in her 20s you would think their combined knowledge would let them be able to write something remotely approximating a believable teenage girl. But if you thought that, you would be wrong. Their formula for writing teenagers seems to be an abundance of forced pop culture references and excessive use of the word "cool" which work together to make this three-year-old book sound hopelessly dated. Then, general technical awfulness aside, this book grossly appropriates, exoticizes, and misrepresents Native American culture. And that's not even getting into the amount of slut-shaming, body snarking, and general misogyny they managed to get into the first six chapters alone.

Cringeworthy on every level.
