Babylon Restored, formerly Manhattan, may give David answers. Ruled by the mysterious High Epic, Regalia, David is sure Babylon Restored will lead him to what he needs to find. And while entering another city oppressed by a High Epic despot is a gamble, David's willing to risk it. Because killing Steelheart left a hole in David's heart. A hole where his thirst for vengeance once lived. Somehow, he filled that hole with another Epic—Firefight. And he's willing to go on a quest darker, and more dangerous even, than the fight against Steelheart to find her, and to get his answers.

Continuation of a good series. Again as a young adult book this is perfect. Not overly complicated but a quick and fun read in a unique world. Still has surprises and keeps you interested, unlike, in my opinion, other YA books. To me a good series is when I finish a book and need to read the next to find out what happens!

далеко не таке цікаве, як перша частина — як і будь-яка серія, ця втрачає оригінальність із кодною книжкою, — але читабельно, як на підліткове чтиво.

As much as I like Sanderson's other books, this one falls kind of short. The character interactions are awkward for a bunch of characters who are supposed to be badass supervillain hunters. The ending rounds out neatly, which is common with this author's books. However, the overused "joke" that the main character isn't good at metaphors got stale pretty much instantly.

"We'll do what we do, David," Prof said quietly. "There will be a reckoning."

Reckoners #2 is a great follow up to Steelheart and I consumed this story very quickly. I was hoping to pace my reading out a bit more for Reckoners #3, but now I'm done ahead of schedule and have to wait a month for the next instalment.

The world of Epics has been set and now Sanderson is free to build on the mythology and give a little more insight to characters and history of how things came to be. New characters and locales are quickly introduced and the story starts quick and keeps moving along very fast.

This series is still a mini version of Sanderson's other fantasy works and I'm okay with that. This has been an entertaining read and I'm hooked to see how it plays out.

First published on Forest Azuaron.

Firefight is a serviceable sequel to the amazing Steelheart. We get a bit more of an understanding of the Epics and their powers, particularly where their powers come from... and not much else. David is David, Prof is Prof, Val is Val, and we've got some new characters to pad out the roster, but it all feels like filler, like it should have been shortened and used as the opening to Calamity.

Of course, having read all Sanderson's published works, it's entirely possible I'm just spoiled. It's still Sanderson, so it's still exciting and well-crafted. I just expect more from him at this point.
